Catch Me If You Can: My ice cream
Few weeks back, I went to DLF mall of India, Noida with my friends. After doing lots of shopping, we were just meandering around the food court on the fourth floor. Suddenly, we heard a buzz around an ice cream stall there. Our curiosity led us towards it. Startlingly, It was a live counter named “Turquoise Turkish Ice-cream” ran by two Turkish men serving Turkish Maras ice cream. As we approached near, we saw something very unique and exciting. Both the ice cream vendors were wearing velvet tagiyahs (hats) and were serving ice cream to their customers in an acrobatic way. Just watching them was so much fun that I couldn’t resist myself from trying it. Also, being an ice cream lover, I promptly placed an order.
Next comes, which flavor to pick? There were a variety of generous ice cream flavors which are liked by not just children but elders too. And amazingly you can pick one, three or five flavors scoops in a single cone. Of course, the price differs for each of it. It has always been toilsome for me to choose what to have from the menu. So, I finally settled for my most-liked Mango flavored ice cream. What’s more, there it comes, my turn to have ice cream. I rushed towards the counter and stood right in front of it.
But the vendor was like, No! No! No! You are not going to get it so easily. He teased me by whirling the cone around my ear, swayed away my ice cream handing me just the cone, swirled the cone while I thrash my arms around trying to catch it and even deceived me into taking just the tissue at one point. He was so quick and tricky that he handed me my ice cream, but no, but yes, but no and finally yes but I had the cone only. AGHHHHHH!! I took a gander at him and he gave me a wry grin and handed me my ice cream. God help me! No! I had just the tissue. Lastly, I ended up having my ice cream in my hand and a smile on my face.
It felt like I am a kid craving for ice cream and the vendor with the sleight of his hands making me crave for it even more. I enjoyed a lot. But don’t take it as a case of style over substance. The ice cream was yumm too. It was perfectly sweet, neither too much nor too less. Mango flavor was delectable. I will definitely try other flavors next time. Also, It didn’t cost me much, priced at Rs.150 for each scoop. Overall, it was a delightful experience and thanks to my friend who captured it in a video. Its a must try but only when you are in a good mood :)
